Sona in French and Spanish

The web app and the iOS and Android apps now speak French and Spanish — picked up from your device, and shared across your account.

Sona now works in French and Spanish, on the web and in the iOS and Android apps. It's the third round after Japanese and Korean and German and Brazilian Portuguese, and it works the same way: nothing to install, nothing to switch on. If your browser or phone is already set to one of them, Sona opens in it.

It follows your language

The web app reads your browser's language and the mobile apps read your phone's. Regional variants are covered: French from Canada or Belgium gets French, and Spanish from Mexico, Argentina, Spain or anywhere else gets Spanish. If you'd rather choose, use Settings on the web or Settings → Language in the app. Whatever you pick is saved to your account, so the web and both phones agree, and emails from Sona, like sign-in links, arrive in the same language.

The public pages — the landing page, pricing, and this blog — have their own /fr/ and /es/ addresses too, and the guides on this blog have been translated into both.

Your interface language and your deck's language are separate

Same as before: changing Sona's language doesn't touch your decks. Using Sona in French while you build a Japanese deck is completely normal, and the two settings don't know about each other. Setting up a deck well works the same in any language.

New decks, written in the language

Discover has six new decks from Sona, written natively rather than translated from the English ones:

  • French: essential English vocabulary (with the answers in French), the key dates of French history, and general knowledge essentials.
  • Spanish: essential English vocabulary (with the answers in Spanish), world capitals and countries (including all 20 Spanish-speaking ones), and the history of the Hispanic world, from Spain to Latin America.

Like any public deck, you can fork one into your own account and edit it.

Nothing else changes

Study, Browse, every Quiz mode, offline access, and sync are unlimited on the Free plan, in every language, same as before. Pro covers the same things it always has.

Pick a language, or let your device pick one for you.
