Sona in Japanese and Korean
The web app and the iOS and Android apps now speak Japanese and Korean — picked up from your device, and shared across your account.
Sona now works in Japanese and Korean, on the web and in the iOS and Android apps. There's nothing to install and nothing to switch on — if your browser or phone is already set to one of them, Sona opens in it.
It follows your language
The web app reads your browser's language and the mobile apps read your phone's. If you'd rather choose, use Settings on the web or Settings → Language in the app. Whatever you pick is saved to your account, so the web and both phones agree: change it in one place and the others follow. Emails from Sona, like sign-in links, arrive in the same language.
The public pages — the landing page, pricing, and this blog — also have
their own /ja/ and /ko/ addresses, with a language switcher in the
header.
Your interface language and your deck's language are separate
Changing Sona's language doesn't touch your decks. Someone using Sona in Korean making a Japanese vocabulary deck is completely normal, and the two settings don't know about each other.
What does follow a deck is how its cards are drawn. A deck set to Japanese or Korean is shown in Noto Sans JP or Noto Sans KR, so the same card looks the same on every device and on the web. Setting up a deck well works the same in any language.
New decks, written in the language
Discover now has six new decks from Sona, written natively rather than translated from the English ones:
- Japanese: the solar system, biology basics, and key events in Japanese history.
- Korean: essential English vocabulary (with the answers in Korean), Korean history essentials, and basic science.
Like any public deck, you can fork one into your own account and edit it.
Nothing else changes
Study, Browse, every Quiz mode, offline access, and sync are unlimited on the Free plan, in every language, same as before. Pro covers the same things it always has.
Pick a language, or let your device pick one for you.
